Comparing roof replacement estimates in Moscow and Pullman

A total price and shingle color are easy to compare. The work included in each estimate takes a little more care. Before choosing a roofer, make sure you understand what each written scope covers.

Check how removal and hidden damage are handled

Look for a description of whether existing roofing will be removed, how many layers are included, and what happens if damaged roof decking is uncovered. The estimate should explain how that extra work would be documented and priced before it is done.

Compare the water-shedding details

Ask what underlayment and flashing are included, and how the scope addresses valleys, roof edges, vents, chimneys, and other penetrations on your home. If the proposal includes changes to ventilation, ask what is changing and why. These details can vary from one roof to another, so a clear explanation is more useful than a long list of product names.

Make sure cleanup and coverage are clear

Find out how the crew will protect the property, collect tear-off debris, and check the yard for stray nails. Ask for the written workmanship coverage and any manufacturer warranty information, including what could limit that coverage.

• Does this price include removing the existing roof, or is it an overlay?
• How will concealed decking damage be reviewed and approved?
• Which flashing and roof-edge details are included?
• What work is excluded from this estimate?
• How will changes to the scope or price be discussed?
• What cleanup and written warranty coverage are included?
